Following Education Minister Mike Bernier’s October 12 statements to the news media linking the availability of seismic upgrade funding to school boards voting to approve their balanced budgets, in addition to his September 21 announcement rescinding governments 95 percent school utilization requirement, Vision Vancouver trustees will vote Monday to formally pass the 2016/17 operating budget that is currently being implemented.

WHEN:

Monday, October 17, 2016 at 7pm

WHERE:

Vancouver School Board Office – Main Boardroom
1580 West Broadway Street, Vancouver

WHO:

Mike Lombardi, Vancouver School Board Chairperson
Joy Alexander, School Trustee
Patti Bacchus, School Trustee
Allan Wong, School Trustee

QUOTE:

“We want to be clear that we still believe these cuts go too far and we will continue to advocate for increased funding. We are very grateful for all the support we’ve received from parents, the public, and partner groups regarding our stand on the budget. It’s now time to move forward and take the Minister up on his commitment to fund much-needed seismic upgrades as soon as possible.
"We would like to once again invite Minister Bernier to meet with the VSB to focus on strategies for expediting the seismic upgrading of Vancouver schools and supporting teaching, learning, and student success in our schools.” – VSB Trustee Patti Bacchus
