Vision Vancouver announced today that Niki Sharma, a Vancouver lawyer with experience in aboriginal and environmental issues, will be joining the Vision Park Board team in this November’s election.
“Niki brings a wide range of experience and energy, and we’re very excited to have her join the Vision team,” said Vision Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson. “Her commitment to making our community facilities and parks more affordable and accessible, as well as her long-standing work on social justice and environmental issues, stands in direct contrast to the out-of-touch priorities of Suzanne Anton and the NPA.”
Niki Sharma practices aboriginal law in Vancouver, and has worked and volunteered with the Battered Women Support Services and the Environmental Youth Alliance.
“Our parks and recreation services play a crucial role in building affordable, inclusive neighbourhoods in Vancouver,” said Sharma. “Vision is the party with a clear, long-term plan to make our city greener and more affordable, and has demonstrated the ability to follow through on its commitments.
“In the next three years, we need to build on Vision’s work by expanding green space through implementing the Greenest City Action Plan, and keeping community centres inclusive and affordable for everyone. We need a Vision parks board to make this happen and I am proud to support Gregor Robertson and the Vision team in ensuring we elect a strong, progressive parks board on November 19th.”
